Esther’s Journey Of Learning

Are you still undecided if you should learn a new language? Or maybe, you want to but you don’t know how or where to start. Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Today’s podcast will inspire you to keep going on your journey of learning another language. I’ll let my friend Esther Ciganda take the wheel and let her tell us how she went from learning English to Basque and ultimately French. Esther gives us a lot of insight into the benefits of learning new languages as well as some of the mistakes she made along the way.

Today’s Guest

Esther Ciganda is a teacher with 20+ years of experience. With US immigrant parents, she learned English at the young age of 5 and kept speaking her original language Spanish at home. In 2011, she started learning the Basque language, her childhood dream. It is there where she better understood how it is to be a new language learner and this helped her to improve being a language teacher.

Living in the French side of Basque pushed her to learn French as well. With her passion for teaching and understanding the struggle of learning a new language, she now empowers other educators through her course and podcasts.

Key takeaways from the episode:

  • To fully learn a language, it is important to learn to speak, write and read.

  • You need to decide what you are willing to dedicate to your study.

  • Dedicate consistent schedule to study.
There are a lot of ways to learn a language online, use apps, watch videos or listen to podcasts.

  • Start with real-life situation. Learn the basics. Work with a teacher who can help you with pronunciation.

  • Even if we learn differently, it is important to have a learning structure.

  • Any tool is good if you use it fully and correctly.

  • If you have the desire to study a language, don’t wait, start now.
